Rhythm 2011

Rhythm – the International Summer Academy for Drums and Percussion will take place once again at the Bavarian Music Academy in Marktoberdorf, Germany, after a three-year long hiatus. From July 22nd to 29th, participate in seven days of celebrating the art of percussion und drums. Our list of instructors under the artistic administration of Hakim Ludin, one of the most renowned world music percussionist, speaks for itself:


Born in Peru, Alex Acuna moved in 1974 to Las Vegas and has since then worked with many extraordinary artists such as Elvis, Diana Ross, Paul McCartney, Ella Fitzgerald, The London Symphony Orchesters among many others and was part of the famous band "Weaterh Report". He won the Modern drummers pool for 15th consecutive times. Right now he is playing in the biggest movies of Hollywood...Toy Story 3,  UP. MIssion Impossible, Star Treak, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, Transformers, Entangled, Cars 2, Burlesque. etc..

Phil Maturano, is a real allrounder. The man from New York does afro cuban drumming as well as big band, R&B, straight ahead jazz, rock, world music, even punkrock. He started to give lessons at the Musicans Institut P.I.T. since he was midtwenty.

The young German top drummer Jost Nickel is the driving force of Jan Delays funk big band Disko N° 1 and sets new benchmarks with his beats.

Walfredo Reyes Jr. combines like no other Latin, Afro-Cuban and world percussion with his drum set. He has performed with Carlos Santana, Traffic, Steve Winwood, Jackson Browne, Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan, David Lindley, Ricki Lee Jones, Richard Marx, Sergio Mendes, Smokey Robinson, Robbie Robertson, Joe Sample, Boz Scaggs, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, Johnny Hallyday, Khaled, Lindsey Buckingham, ...

Luis Conte, „Percussionist of the Year“ of the Modern Drummer Reader's Poll (2009, 2010) combines the powerful rhythms of his native Cuba with the standards of American pop music. He has worked with artists  such as Madonna, Ray Charles, Phil Collins, Santana, Shakira, Jackson Browne, Sergio Mendes, Cachao on their mega-successful albums.

Adam Nussbaum from New York is a very well known jazz drummer and worked with the Michael Brecker Quintett for the grammy awarded album „Don‘t Try This At Home“.

Claus Hessler the german protagonist of the open handed playing and is a demanded teacher at drum clinics all over the world.





The seminar is designed for percussionists and drummers of differing styles, whether professionals, students, advanced amateurs or teachers. The seminar is not suitable for beginners. Seminar languages are German and English.

Seminar includes:

- Every morning: warm-up session

- A total of 18 hours of lessons, each in a group of approx. 10 persons, with two teachers in all (3 sessions of 3 hours each per teacher)

- Individual teacher presentations

- Workshops with the teachers

- Evening concerts (free admission)

- A comprehensive exhibition of music, instruments and recordings
